Chairman Mao declared the beginning of People’s Republic of China on October 1st, 1949, this brought huge change in fashion.

China enjoyed a good relationship with Soviet Union at that time so the Chinese costume was influenced by it, and Lenin Coat, Bragi and Soviet Bra were the best examples.

The Only Choice—— Soviet Bra

People in that time preferred labor beauty and simple beauty. The beautiful full breast were not welcome even the plump women had to cover her breast. Besides, in order to dispel the sexual difference between men and women, women were embarrassed to show their curve but wore Lenin Coat to make the breast plain.

In addition, Chinese women didn’t have big boob so the big bra weren’t Chinese type. All these elements impelled Soviet Bra to be the only choice of Chinese women. However, some women who chased for beauty also wore the traditional cloth bra.

There was no concept of cup there, so the cloth bra had no specialty but the plain cloth tied together.

History Was Reversed

The Great Cultural Revolution in 1960s was an unprecedented havoc in Chinese history, which smothered women’s curve beauty again. History was reversed, so was the fashion, especially the lingerie. Women’s lingerie was seriously concealed only left with some vests and simplest bras.

The simple bra was just made of some white cloth with simple cutting of neckline and cuff. Could you image how bitter they feel behind the white cloth? Every woman in that special time never forgot the restriction and damage to the breast. There was no bra fashion then.
